A section of Mumbai Police officers probing the Aseem Trivedi case still maintains the contentious charge of sedition slapped on the young political cartoonist might not be dropped. Despite public outrage against police ham-handedness in dealing with the case, officers reason had the charge not been appropriate, the magistrate court itself would have struck it down. But police are not ready to take a chance either and are trying to shift the blame saying while advising that the cartoonist be booked for sedition, their legal officer had said his “opinion should not be considered final.”

Charges against Trivedi will soon be dropped.
